Salem, OR – The public will have the opportunity to comment on a proposed rate hike for natural gas by Avista Corporation during open house events in four Oregon cities hosted by the Oregon Public Utility Commission.
Under a proposal submitted by Avista to the Commission in April, the company proposed an overall rate increase of 11.8%.
Business customers would face a 9.1% increase, and large commercial and industrial rates would rise by 5%. Residential customers would pay 14.7% more. For a residential customer using 55 therms of natural gas per month, their monthly bill would increase by $6.31.
The Commission has suspended the request and has begun an examination of costs in the filing. The review by the Commission will take approximately 10 months.
This is Avista Corp’s first general rate case filing in Oregon since it purchased CP National in 1991.
The commodity price of natural gas is not included in the filing. Commodity price adjustments typically occur each year in the fall.
