Contacts:  Lee Beyer, Chairman, 503 378-6611; Ray Baum, Commissioner, 503 378-6611; John Savage, Commissioner, 503 378-6611; Bob Valdez, Public Affairs Specialist, 503 378-8962
Salem, Ore. Find out and have a say about Oregon’s new area code by attending an upcoming Open House in Corvallis.  Available telephone numbers in the 541 area code are limited and expected to run out in early 2011.
Due to the time required to implement a new area code, the Public Utility Commission of Oregon (PUC) has opened an investigation to determine the appropriate method to provide number relief. Affected customers are encouraged to comment and ask questions on the need for a new area code at any of 18 PUC hosted open house meetings throughout the state.
DATE: June 19, 2008
TIME: 12 noon
PLACE: Benton County Fairgrounds
            Conference Room
            110 SW 53rd St.
            Corvallis, OR 97333
The open house runs from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Members of the PUC Staff and industry representatives will be available to answer individual questions from the public during this time.
More information is posted on the PUC’s website.  Customers can also email their comments to PUC.541@state.or.us.  A decision is expected this fall.
