Salem, OR.  The current recession has reduced state revenues, and has forced the Legislature to make deep cuts in agency budgets.  Coping with these cuts requires closing most state offices and facilities on the days listed below.  Public Utility Commission workers will take unpaid furloughs on those days.  The first unpaid furlough day is Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.
Please call your utility company if you wish to make payment arrangements or check on the status of a payment.  If you have questions regarding a water, natural gas, electric or telephone company regulated by the Commission, please contact the Commission’s Consumer Services Division when we reopen Monday Oct. 19 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm toll free at 1-800-522-2404.
Applications for the Telephone Assistance Programs are available online at http://www.puc.state.or.us/Pages/rspf/index.aspx
“We apologize for any inconvenience these closures might cause, and we look forward to restoration of a full work schedule for all state agencies when the economy improves,” said Commission Executive Director Rick Willis.
The Oregon Department of Administrative Services has published information about Friday’s closure and furloughs on the state’s Web site (www.Oregon.gov), along with a schedule of the remaining closure days.  Members of the public can also find out which state offices will remain open on the closure days.
