Salem, OR - Wednesday Oregon Public Utility Commission will conduct a hearing in the Commission's main hearing room to consider a request by Portland General Electric (PGE) to raise residential rates by 17.1 percent on an interim basis effective January 1, 2001.
The Commission is taking the unusual step to directly take testimony on the request due a short time frame in which to make a decision. It's believed this is the first request the Commission has received for an interim hike in more than a decade. The Commission's resolution of the issue may be affected by PGE's recent request for approval of a wholesale market sales adjustment.
At the hearing Commission staff will outline its position. The Commission will also hear from other parties, including company representatives, the Citizens' Utility Board, Industrial Customers of Northwest Utilities (ICNU) and Fred Meyer stores.
The hearing before the Commission begins at 1:30 p.m.
