Salem, OR - The Oregon Public Utility Commission will hold a Special Public Meeting March 22, 2001 to discuss policy issues associated with Portland General Electric's (PGE) and PacifiCorp's proposals to restructure and reprice services in accordance with Senate Bill 1149.
Both utilities filed rate cases with the Commission late last year as required by the restructuring law.  New rates would take effect October 1, 2001. Other parties to the rate cases, including the Citizen's Utility Board (CUB) and Industrial Customers of Northwest Utilities (ICNU), will also be allowed to provide testimony.
Potential issues to be discussed include short-term and long-term energy supplies and prices, water conditions in the Northwest, and the California meltdown.
Together, the two utilities serve roughly 73% of Oregon's energy market with approximately 1.2 million customers.
