Salem, OR – Want to find out how high-speed broadband is making a difference in Eastern Oregon and what may be on the horizon. You’ll have your chance by attending the Eastern Oregon Telecommunications Forum August 4, 2004 at the Blue Mountain Convention Center in La Grande, Oregon.
The forum will include keynote luncheon speeches by U.S. Congressman Greg Walden and Mr. Jeff Carlisle, Senior Deputy Bureau Chief of the FCC Wireline Competition Bureau. The Eastern Oregon Telecommunications Consortium and the Oregon Public Utility Commission sponsor the Forum.
The forum will include industry leaders, various Federal and State officials and will be focused on access to advanced services and the availability of broadband to rural Oregonians and communities in Eastern Oregon.
"This is a unique opportunity to find out first hand from a host of different perspectives what may lie in our telecommunications future," Oregon Public Utility Commission Chairman Lee Beyer said. "A lot of exciting things are happening in this industry and this will be a great chance to find out what is coming down the pipe and how you might take advantage of it."
Two exhibit sessions will provide an opportunity to see the latest services and products from a number of telecommunications carriers, equipment and software vendors who serve rural areas.
Among the panel discussions will be the President’s 2007 broadband objective.
Space is limited to attend the forum. Registration is free. Information and forms are available at www.eastortel.org. You can also call Layne Sylvester at 541-663-1423 or lsylvest@ruralpolicy.org.
