Salem, OR – The Oregon Public Utility Commission will hold its annual “Natural Gas Outlook” meeting July 10, 2007 in the Commission’s main hearing room at 550 Capitol Street in Salem.  The Commission will receive a briefing on the short and long term outlooks for natural gas prices for home heating, industry, and for generation of electricity.
Roughly 360,000 Oregonians receive natural gas from one of three natural gas companies. The companies are Northwest Natural Gas, Avista Utilities and Cascade Natural Gas.
In November the Commission adjusts each company’s rates either up or down to reflect changes in the wholesale price of natural gas.  The Purchased Gas Adjustment (PGA) passes through to customers the changes when prices go up and when they drop. The adjustment also addresses differences between forecasted gas costs in the previous year with actual costs.  The natural gas companies do not profit from this annual adjustment.
The meeting begins at 2:30 pm and last until about 4 pm. Reporters can listen to the meeting by calling 503-365-4439 and entering pass code 6782 followed by the # sign.
