Salem, OR.  Avista Utilities filed a request with the Oregon Public Utility Commission this week to raise customer rates by 9.8 percent overall. A typical residential customer using an average of 48 therms a month would see a bill of $64.17, $6.17 more or a 10.6 percent increase.
The Company’s filing said that new capital investments in updating natural gas pipe and technology are factors behind the request.
The proposed request will generate approximately $9.5 million in additional natural gas revenue. It would result in a proposed rate of return of 7.83 percent with a common equity ratio of 50 percent and a currently authorized 10.1 percent return on equity.
The Commission has up to 10 months to analyze and make a decision on Avista's request.
The company's last general rate increase request in Oregon was filed in 2010.
Avista serves approximately 96,700 customers southwestern and northeastern Oregon.
