Oregon Board of Maritime Pilots Hires Executive Director

Salem, OR.  The Oregon Board of Maritime Pilots (OBMP) has hired Eric Burnette as its part-time Executive Director.  Mr. Burnette will work with the Board, state-licensed pilots, the shipping industry, environmental, community, state and federal regulatory agencies, contractors and the public. 
“This is going to be a challenging time for maritime transportation and I look forward to working with everyone involved in this industry to ensure the safety of our waterways,” Burnette said.
Mr. Burnette is a graduate of the California Maritime Academy and recently worked with the Port of Portland as a Senior Waterways Planner.
OBMP licenses and regulates approximately 60 pilots who use their special knowledge of local conditions to direct vessels calling on the ports of Coos Bay, Yaquina Bay, Astoria, Kalama, Longview, Vancouver and Portland.
Board members are appointed by the Governor and approved by the Oregon Senate. The Board consists of three public members, three pilot members, and three shipping industry members. The agency exists within the Public Utility Commission of Oregon
