Oregon residents are provided service from more than 3,500 water systems statewide.  The Public Utility Commission of Oregon (PUC) regulates private or investor-owned water utilities, as well as select mobile home parks and associations providing water service. All regulated water utilities must comply with PUC rules and regulations on matters such as water quality, pressure, customer service and plant repair and maintenance.  PUC staff investigates complaints to ensure customers are receiving safe and adequate water service. There is also a smaller number of water utilities that are regulated for rates and fees annually to ensure residents are receiving service at just and reasonable rates.  A large percentage of Oregonians receive water from approximately 1,100 municipalities and publicly-owned water systems, which are not regulated by the PUC.
